Outdoor Artificial Living Wall
Artificial living walls for rooftops, patios, facades and pool walls. Vallum FRX pairs artificial foliage with a galvanized wire mesh backing on hat channel — no irrigation, no drainage headaches, and exposure, substrate and attachment reviewed for every project.
Request a Product QuoteA green wall planned for the outdoors
Most artificial greenery was designed for interiors. An outdoor artificial living wall has to be planned around what the exterior does to a wall: sun, wind, rain, and along the coast, salt air. That is why every outdoor project starts with the site, not the catalog: exposure, orientation, the wall behind the system, and how it will be attached.
Our outdoor walls use the Vallum FRX system: a 6-gauge galvanized wire mesh backing, stood off the wall on hat channel and secured with galvanized clips, carrying artificial foliage selected per design. We do not publish a UV rating or an outdoor service-life figure for it, so sun exposure and foliage selection are discussed with you before you order.
Because the greenery is artificial, the entire irrigation problem disappears. There is no drip line to freeze, no pump to fail, no reservoir to overflow onto the membrane below, and no root system to attack the wall behind it. For a live exterior green wall, water management is the single largest source of both installation cost and long-term failure. Here it is simply not part of the system.

Planned around the four things that challenge exterior green walls
Sun, weather, water, and fire review are what make exterior green walls hard. Each one is addressed during project review.
Exposure reviewed before you order
A south-facing rooftop and a shaded courtyard are different jobs. We review orientation and exposure with you and select the foliage for the site. We do not publish a UV rating for Vallum FRX, so this conversation happens before the order, not after the first summer.
Substrate and attachment reviewed per project
Vallum FRX uses a 6-gauge galvanized wire mesh backing, stood off the wall on hat channel and secured with galvanized clips. Wind, coastal air, and the wall behind the system are site conditions, so the substrate and attachment are reviewed for each project.
No water system to fail
A live exterior green wall depends on pumps, drip lines, reservoirs and waterproofing behind the panels — every one of those a failure point and a maintenance line item. Artificial foliage removes all of it: nothing to freeze in winter, nothing to leak onto the structure below, and no roots working into the wall.
Documentation for exterior commercial work
For hotels, rooftops and commercial facades where the authority having jurisdiction reviews materials, Vallum FRX has NFPA 701 Method 2 documentation for applicable configurations. Requirements vary by venue and jurisdiction; the documentation supports review, and final acceptance rests with the AHJ.
Exterior applications
Anywhere a live wall would demand irrigation, sun exposure and constant upkeep, the outdoor artificial living wall goes in and stays green.
Rooftop terraces
Full-sun rooftop decks and amenity spaces where wind and heat load punish live plantings. The panels add greenery and privacy without adding an irrigation zone or a soil load to the structure.
Patios & courtyards
Residential and hospitality patios that need instant, evergreen enclosure. A finished green wall is green the day it is installed, instead of the years a live hedge or planted wall takes to fill in.
Building facades
Exterior facades and entry walls that need a green statement at street level. Exposure, substrate and attachment are reviewed for the specific facade before we quote.
Pool & spa walls
Pool surrounds and spa enclosures where splash, chlorine and sun are part of the site. Exposure and attachment are reviewed per project before you order.
Exterior privacy screens
Property-line and balcony screening that reads as a lush hedge from day one. Pair the wall system with our hedge panels for taller runs and continuous coverage.
Commercial exteriors
Restaurant patios, retail storefronts and corporate courtyards where the wall needs to look maintained year-round and, often, carry fire documentation for the AHJ.
Outdoor artificial vs. a live exterior green wall
A live outdoor green wall is beautiful on the day it is planted and needs care every day after. An artificial wall trades living plants for no irrigation and far less upkeep.
| Factor | Outdoor Artificial Living Wall | Live Exterior Green Wall |
|---|---|---|
| Irrigation | None — no pump, drip line or reservoir | Required, plus winterization and waterproofing |
| Sun exposure | Exposure reviewed per project; foliage selected for the site | Species-limited; scorch and dieback in full sun |
| Coastal / salt air | Galvanized wire mesh on hat channel; substrate and attachment reviewed per project | Salt burn on foliage; corrosion on metal supports |
| Maintenance | Occasional rinse; no trimming or feeding | Ongoing pruning, feeding, replanting, irrigation service |
| Time to full coverage | Immediate — installed green | Months to years of grow-in |

What should I know about putting an artificial living wall in full sun?
Sun exposure is the first thing we review for an outdoor wall. We do not publish a UV rating or an outdoor service-life figure for Vallum FRX, so orientation, exposure, and the foliage selection are discussed per project before you order. Exterior use is confirmed per project, along with the substrate and attachment.
Do outdoor artificial green walls need irrigation or drainage?
No. Because the foliage is artificial, there is no irrigation line, no pump, no reservoir and no soil to drain, which removes the standing-water, root-rot and waterproofing risks that come with live exterior green walls.
Can an outdoor artificial living wall go in a coastal location?
Coastal sites are reviewed per project. Vallum FRX uses a 6-gauge galvanized wire mesh backing on hat channel with galvanized clips, and the substrate, attachment, and exposure are reviewed for the specific site before we quote. We do not publish a corrosion or salt-spray rating.
